New Board Members and Officers Chosen for 2006

Kevin Tilden is the new chair of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation’s board of directors.  Mr. Tilden has been a member of the board since December 2001 and was reappointed in 2005 by the City of San Diego.  He has served on various committees and also chaired the board of San Diego Theaters Inc., a subsidiary of the Corporation.

Besides being active in San Diego’s business, political and philanthropic community, Mr. Tilden is the Director of External Affairs for American Water and responsible for community and government relations, regulatory affairs and customer communications. He holds a B.A. from the University of Washington and a MBA from Pepperdine University.

Chris Frahm was selected as the board’s new vice chair. Ms. Frahm has served on the board for five years and has held several positions including chair and secretary/treasurer. She is a partner in the law firm of Hatch and Parent.

Eric Rivera is secretary-treasurer.  He is the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs Administration at San Diego State University and serves as co-chair of the university’s President Diversity Scholarship Program.

In addition, the City of San Diego appointed four new board members.  The appointees represent a distinguished and diverse group of business professionals from the social service, public affairs, restaurant and education fields. The appointees are Cheryl Kendrick, Bob Nelson, Chris Cramer and Cheryl Fisher.

Cheryl Kendrick is a marketing and community relations professional who most recently served as the Campaign Director at the United Way of San Diego County. Committed to volunteer service, Ms. Kendrick is the past chair of the California State Commission on the Status of Women and has served on the national boards of the National Conference for Community and Justice and the Huntington’s Disease Society of America. 

Bob Nelson is an advertising and public relations executive with 30 years experience in government and communications. Also a business owner, his company, Bob Nelson Associates, advises a diverse list of clients, including labor unions, non-profit social service agencies, and health care providers.

Chris Cramer is CEO and co-founder of Karl Strauss Brewing Company. Mr. Cramer has over 15 years experience in the microbrewery field and operates four high-volume brewery restaurants in the San Diego region. He is involved with the San Diego Taxpayer’s Association and the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce. He is also a board member of the statewide California Restaurant Association as well as the local chapter. He earned his undergraduate degree and MBA from Stanford University.

Also appointed to the Center’s board is Cheryl Fisher. Ms. Fisher is currently the Director of Diversity at San Diego State University and is responsible for managing the university’s diversity, discrimination and disability issues.  She is active in community affairs.

The board consists of nine members, appointed by the Mayor of San Diego and the City Council, with two additional non-voting members representing the hotel industry and the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau.  The board is responsible for setting policy and direction for the Convention Center
