Mission Statement

Mission Statement, Operating Goals & Objectives

The San Diego Convention Center is designed and constructed to encourage and promote the economic growth and enhancement in the San Diego area. The Center should serve as the keystone of private and public assembly events providing:

  • Positive identity to the San Diego area as a nucleus for conventions, trade shows, conferences, and the visitor industry.
  • A profound financial benefit for the entire community.

Priority booking order is as follows:

  1. Conventions, conferences and trade shows in support of the visitor industry, providing impact to the community.
  2. Entertainment, recreational, and “consumer” related events.
  3. Local meetings, exhibitions, educational, social, cultural, artistic, athletic, and religious events on behalf of all members of the community.

Consistent with sound enterprise and business judgment, the San Diego Convention Center should provide maximum levels of tenant and patron service at competitive, reasonable rates. At the same time, management should endeavor to reduce net operating costs.

Recognizing its obligation to the community to develop maximum use of the multi-purpose facility in an intensely competitive market from centers in other cities, confidence is expressed in its management which is authorized to provide and modify policies, procedures and fee schedules consistent with the best interests of the citizens of the San Diego area.
