Fiscal year 2005 was a year of tremendous achievements for the Center and the entire San Diego destination. The Convention Center hosted 224 events, including 55 top-tier conventions. These meetings pumped in $1.2 billion in economic activity for our region including $25.5 million in tax revenues for the city.
This is also the first year in which the Center was fully responsible, and accountable, for the sales and marketing of the facility including hotel room blocks to support city-wide business. We are pleased to report that our sales team sold 915,000 future hotel room nights during the fiscal year; this is an amazing accomplishment given the highly competitive nature of our industry. Of course, these accomplishments could not have been possible without the support of our hotel and hospitality industry partners.
This year, instead of printing and mailing our annual report, we have decided to present you with an on-line version. We hope you enjoy it, and thank you for reading it.
