Fiscal year 2006 was a year of accomplishments for the San Diego Convention Center Corporation. We attracted an all time-high 281 events that brought a record-breaking 950,710 attendees through the Convention Center’s front doors. Seventy-one of these events were conventions and tradeshows that attracted 511,881 out-of-town visitors who infused over one billion dollars into the local economy underscoring our mission to generate significant economic benefits for the San Diego region.
When our expansion opened five years ago, it was with the promise that we would accommodate additional convention business and contribute even greater economic benefits. Indeed, in the last five years the building has generated well over $5 billion in regional economic impact and $115 million in tax revenues that helps reduce the tax burden on local taxpayers and funds vital city services. This success would not be possible without the strong support we receive from our hotel and hospitality partners, the Port of San Diego and the City of San Diego.
In the following pages you will find our FY06 Annual Report. In addition to summarizing the Convention Center’s return-on-investment to the taxpayers of San Diego and other accomplishments, it highlights the building’s successful expansion on its five year anniversary. We welcome your comments and thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
