Before checking in, future visitors to San Diego can “check out” the new Hilton San Diego Convention Center Hotel currently under construction adjacent to our award-winning facility.
The 1,190-room waterfront hotel broke ground in January 2006 and is slated to open in November 2008. In anticipation, the Convention Center’s newest headquarter hotel has already been added to Hilton Hotels official web site and offers a preview of what's in store.
The web page, among other things, offers a virtual tour of the new hotel’s soaring 30-story tower and stylishly designed guest rooms. Photos of San Diego Bay, the downtown skyline, Petco Park and the Convention Center have been included to showcase the stunning views guests will experience during their stay.
The web site also has details on the amenities and services that will be available to overnight guests, including a business center, two on-site restaurants, and more than 100,000 square feet of enclosed meeting space.
While reservations are not being accepted through the Hilton Hotels web site yet, groups and conventions can contact the new hotel’s temporary offices in San Diego at 619-275-8950 for more information.
“We’re excited to welcome the Hilton as part of the headquarter hotel family supporting our Convention Center, including the Manchester Grand Hyatt, the San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina and the Omni San Diego,” said Sandra Moreno, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing.
Other downtown hotel projects have recently opened or are slated to later this year, including the 420-room Hard Rock Hotel directly across the street from the Convention Center, the 159-room Ivy Hotel, the 35-room The Keating and the 185-room Diegan Hotel. Two other downtown properties – the 212-room Sofia Hotel and the historic 270-room U.S. Grant - have undergone multi-million dollar renovations.
Once the Hilton San Diego Convention Center Hotel opens in fall 2008, the total supply of downtown hotel rooms will rise to 11,218. The region as a whole boasts over 52,000 rooms.
According to Moreno, the San Diego Convention Center sales team is already offering the new Hilton as a hotel room-block option for events that will be coming into our building as early as December 2008.
