The San Diego Convention Center Corporation recently added Alexis Gutierrez, a business lawyer and partner in the law firm of Higgs, Fletcher & Mack LLP, to its nine-member board of directors. Nominated by Mayor Jerry Sanders and unanimously approved by the San Diego City Council, Gutierrez is serving a three-year term that runs to December 1, 2009.
“We are extremely pleased that Mr. Gutierrez has joined our Board of Directors” said Carol Wallace, President and CEO of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation. “His legal expertise and strong background in business and labor make him a tremendous asset and welcome addition to our board.”
Gutierrez advises and litigates on behalf of companies and their boards in both state and federal courts on issues involving business, labor, employment, and intellectual property. He also has considerable non- and for-profit board experience as legal counsel and member.
In addition to the San Diego Convention Center Corporation board, Gutierrez also serves on the boards of American Red Cross San Diego-Imperial Counties Chapter and Accion-San Diego and as legal counsel to non-profits Noah Homes, Inc. and the North County Humane Society. He holds degrees from California State Polytechnic University and the University of San Diego’s School of Law.
The San Diego Convention Center Corporation’s board sets polity for the Corporation. The seven voting members are appointed by the mayor and city council. Two non-voting members represent the Hotel-Motel Association and the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau.
