Andy Mikschl, a key member of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation (SDCCC) sales team, was recently promoted to Senior Vice President of Sales.
In his new role, Mr. Mikschl has complete management responsibility for the overall day-to-day operations of the Corporation’s San Diego, Chicago and Washington D.C. sales offices. All sales team members are now reporting directly to him, including the regional vice presidents in our Midwest and Eastern offices and the associate vice presidents in our San Diego office.
Mikschl is continuing to report to Sandra Moreno, the SDCCC’s Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, who is also based in San Diego.
“Andy’s knowledge and expertise is extremely valuable to the Center and to our clients.” said Convention Center Corporation President and CEO Carol Wallace. “He thoroughly understands the complexities of the conventions and meetings industry, is an expert at providing seamless service to our customers and has outstanding leadership skills. We are very fortunate to have Andy in such a key position on our team.”
A respected industry veteran, Mr. Mikschl has 22 years combined hospitality and convention center sales experience. He joined the SDCCC in 2004 as a director of sales and was promoted to associate vice president of sales a year later. Prior to that, Mr. Mikschl was a national sales manager at the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Mr. Mikschl earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from San Diego State University. He is active within the meeting and convention industry and is a member of Meeting Professionals International (MPI) and the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA).

Maureen Eberle,

Maureen Eberle, the Convention Center’s Associate Vice President of Sales, is a 2007 winner of San Diego’s YWCA Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN) Award. Presented annually, the TWIN award celebrates female leaders in managerial, executive, and professional roles who have accomplished outstanding achievements for their employers and have also made significant contributions to community service.
Eberle was nominated and chosen for the TWIN Award due to her outstanding leadership in our sales department. Eberle is responsible for booking and contracting future conventions and participates daily to help develop budgets, forecasts, sales goals and marketing strategies. She continues to be the corporation’s leading sales person, achieving 150% of her production goal in FY06, When asked why she is so passionate about her job, Eberle didn’t even hesitate.
“Service,” she said. “I couldn’t sell something I didn’t believe in. San Diego is like no other city. We have an amazing package, an amazing Convention Center and excellent service. Our customers want to have the best venue, whether it’s doctors, IT or Comic Con. They all want to have a good experience. My purpose is to facilitate that for them.”
And indeed she does. Eberle is well liked among clients, and many consider her a personal friend. “This is a relationship business,” she said. “And I really enjoy the relationships with the customers.”
Part of the criteria for the TWIN Award is nominees’ involvement in community service. Eberle not only volunteers for her local community, but internationally as well. She helps with homebuilding in Mexico and has even traveled across the globe to help Rotary, a worldwide humanitarian service organization, achieve its goal of eradicating polio. Two years ago, Eberle was in India, helping to give polio immunizations to children.
On a local level, Eberle has contributed her time to respite foster care. Her role is allowing foster families to take a temporary rest by offering her home and support over the weekends to foster children. Eberle is also an Assistant District Governor for her local Rotary chapter and she helps raise money for an AIDS clinic in Zambia as well as for Monarch School—a school for homeless children in San Diego. Soon she will volunteer to visit elementary schools and read short stories to K-6th children as part of the Rolling Readers program which was designed to motivate children to be passionate readers.
Eberle remembers what her life was like before she began her career as a sales person. “I was a social worker and I didn’t know anything about sales. There was somebody who believed in me even though I had no background, but they gave me chance. I think it is now my responsibility to do the same for others,” she said. “It’s kind of like that old movie ‘Pay it Forward.’ You never know how many lives you’re touching.”
