Carol Wallace, president and CEO of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation, was selected as the North American representative on the AIPC International Association of Congress Centres board of directors during their annual meeting held July 6 through 8, in A Coruna, Spain. The association represents the interests of professional convention and exhibition center managers from over 53 countries and provides valuable insights specifically focusing on issues, opportunities and challenges facing the industry. During the meeting, San Diego was selected as the site for their upcoming 2011 annual conference. The event, which attracts convention industry executives worldwide, represents a significant marketing opportunity to showcase San Diego, and all it offers, on both international and domestic levels. "Carol is an exceptional leader and the driving force behind San Diego’s success," said Chris Cramer, chair of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation’s board of directors. "Her selection is an affirmation of her accomplishments and proven ability. We’re very proud of her and to be hosting this important international group in 2011." Under Ms. Wallace’s leadership, the award-winning San Diego Convention Center has become one of the top rated facilities in the world. Now celebrating 20 years of success, the Convention Center has generated $18.3 billion in regional economic impact, $364 million in tax revenues for the city and supports 12,500 jobs countywide.
